Electrician

NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority, Mt Van Hoevenberg & Olympic Jumping Complex

The NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority is seeking a full-time year around Maintenance Electrician for Winter Olympic Legacy Venues in Lake Placid, NY; Mt Van Hoevenberg and Olympic Jumping Complex. This position will be responsible for a variety of electrical needs of which may include building maintenance, public recreation attractions (Cliffside Coaster, Zipline, Gondola), sport training/ competition facilities and events. The Maintenance Electrician will provide support to multiple departments.

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge and skills in several of the following areas; electrical codes, services, distribution systems (up to 480V), motors, controls, low voltage systems, sports timing/ scoring, audio- visual, voice/data. Other skills levels are encouraged to apply.

This position will be called upon to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on electrical equipment and systems in an often fast-paced work environment and with a mind for safety. Must be able to read and interpret documentation, electrical prints and diagrams, acquire parts and materials.   The successful candidate will have good communication skills, a positive attitude and work ethic.

This position has physical demands which require the ability to crawl, climb ladders, perform work at heights, navigate uneven grades and mountainous terrain without restriction (ie; overhead equipment, access ladders, elevated catwalks, hillside, etc.) sometimes working in extreme conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: Demonstrated practical experience and/or documented completion of technical courses and a valid driver’s license.

Events Logistics Team

The NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority is looking for 8-10 reliable people to become a part of the Events Logistics Team for the upcoming event season. Team members will be in a logistical support position within the Events department working on our multitude of national and international sporting events.   The goal of this position is to increase the effectiveness of all ORDA event programming by maintaining day-to-day logistics support activities required to accomplish the work of the department. A knowledge of ORDA goals and program objectives is recommended.  This position reports directly to the Event Logistics Coordinator and assists with duties as needed at ORDA venues and includes work both outside and inside. Direct responsibilities include but are not limited to: execution of event signage; daily event beverage distribution; executing event and function set-up; maintain, schedule and execute the organization’s sound system; execute award ceremonies; and assist in fulfilling transportation requests and administrative duties.  Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Hours will vary by week and event. 

QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: It is helpful to have an extensive knowledge of Lake Placid, winter sports, and the Olympic movement.  The ability to think and work creatively as well as be reliable, taking responsibility and ownership of tasks is a must.  Having skills in carpentry, electricity and sound is a plus.  Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.  Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

COMPENSATION: Part time / Seasonal position; Grade 12 – $16.71 hourly.  ORDA venue access privileges including Whiteface/Gore/Belleayre season pass.

General Mechanic

Mt Van Hoevenberg and Olympic Jumping Complex

The NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority is seeking a full-time year around General Mechanic for its Winter Olympic Legacy Venues in Lake Placid, NY; the Mt Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex and Olympic Jumping Complex. This position’s primary duties are maintenance, repair and safe operation of recreational attractions including the Cliffside Coaster, SkyFlyer Zipline and SkyRide Gondola. The General Mechanic may also provide mechanical and operational support for snowmaking, building maintenance, sport training and competition facilities, events and other technical systems.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and skill in several of the following areas; mechanical systems, hydraulics systems, rigging, 24 to 480 volt electrical systems, controls, drives, pumps, motors, compressors, heavy equipment and machinery, chillers, HVAC.

The Mechanic will perform inspection, testing and maintenance activities on equipment and systems. They will be called on to diagnose and perform repairs; often working in fast-paced setting, within the public eye and with a mind for safety. Ability to read and interpret prints, diagrams, operating procedures, applicable codes/ standards is required. The General Mechanic will obtain parts and supplies and use a variety of tools, machines, motorized equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment. General Mechanics may lead other workers including Equipment Operators and Maintenance Assistants. They may be called on to assist with developing procedures, training, performing evacuation or rescue operations. The successful candidate will have good verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude and work ethic.

COMPENSATION: Per ORDA/ CSEA wage schedule; Grade 15 (General Mechanic 1) is $20.93/ hr. Grade 16 (General Mechanic 2) $22.56/ hr. Pay is commensurate with skills and experience.

Maintenance Assistants

These positions primary duties will be assisting with maintenance, repair and operations of recreational attractions including the Cliffside Coaster, SkyFlyer Zipline and SkyRide Gondola. MA’s will also provide support for events, snowmaking, building maintenance, sport competition facilities, events and other systems.

The ideal candidates will have a willingness to learn, basic mechanical aptitude and skills in at least one of the following areas; mechanical systems, hydraulics systems, rigging, 24 to 480 volt electrical systems, controls, drives, pumps, motors, compressors, heavy equipment/ machinery, HVAC or other related technical systems.

Maintenance Assistants will assist with or perform inspection, testing and maintenance activities on equipment and systems; perform minor repairs under supervision until proficient and complete general labor activities.  Ability to read and follow checklists, manuals, safety instructions, operating procedures, and other documentation is required. The candidate will have verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude and a good work ethic.

Lift Mechanics and Lift Maintenance Staff

Lift Mechanics and lift maintenance staff perform skilled mechanical work in lift repair and maintenance of all the chair lifts and surface lifts on the mountain. Duties will require climbing towers; working in all kinds of inclement weather; as well as operating a variety of power-driven tools and other specialty tools related to the work.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates will have two years of full-time experience working in a mechanically inclined position.  We will train the right candidates.

Guest Service Representatives

The Olympic Regional Development Authority is seeking customer service-orientated individuals to work at various locations in the Lake Placid area. The successful candidate will perform tasks including, but not limited to: greeting customers and ascertaining what each customer wants or needs, opening and closing cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money; separating charge slips, coupons, and vouchers; balancing cash drawers; making deposits; stocking the sales floor; as well as straightening and cleaning the store.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions and make decisions within basic policy and procedures. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to perform basic arithmetic functions, willing to greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, practice good customer service, and be able to lift 20-30 lbs. Applicants should have strong communication skills and approachability. Previous retail experience is preferable, but not necessary. Knowledge of the Lake Placid Olympic venues is a plus.

Zip Line and Mountain Coaster Staff

Come be a part of Lake Placid’s newest sources of fun! The Olympic Jumping Complex & Mt. Van Hoevenberg, both ORDA managed facilities, are seeking energetic, enthusiastic individuals to become Zip Line and Mountain Coaster Attendants.  Staff will be cross trained and be responsible for providing guests with a safe, exciting and enjoyable experience. WE WILL TRAIN YOU!  You will learn how to teach guests to get in and out of zip line gear safely and guide them on the lines. Staff will also operate the all-new and exciting mountain coaster. All staff must adhere to social distancing requirements and other protocols to ensure the safety of fellow employees and guests.  Positions are available immediately!

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and physically able to perform the essential functions of the job (lift 30+ lbs).  Successful candidates must have excellent guest service, communication and teamwork skills.  A background in ropes and climbing is preferred.

Track Maintenance Workers

In addition to their primary responsibility of making and preparing the ice on the Sliding Track, workers may operate a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment, be involved with maintaining buildings and grounds, and performing other tasks as assigned. Must be able to perform heavy physical labor. Will train.

Bobsled Experience Staff

Bobsled Experience Staff are classified as Maintenance Assistants. In addition to their primary responsibility of driving sleds in the bobsled passenger ride program, they are responsible for making and preparing the ice on the Sliding Track. Workers may operate a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment, be involved with maintaining buildings and grounds, and performing other tasks as assigned. Must be able to perform heavy physical labor. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and will be subject to drug testing. Will train. Entry rate: $ 15.47/hr
